Potterheads and potheads, this one’s a quick hit!

“Hufflepuff puff pass” is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the fanon trope that the chill, kitchens-adjacent Hufflepuffs are the primary marijuana-enjoyers of Hogwarts. But the headcanon isn’t only prevalent on Tumblr, TikTok, and a favorite skit or two – a Hufflepuff can find it all over the last few years of wrock.

I thought it would be fun to rank all these songs (or at least the ones that I know about). So before you blow this joint – let’s wrock and roll!

 

5 – Hufflepuff Puff Pass

Amontiock’s 2016 single Hufflepuff Puff Pass takes the last spot only because I wanted to start and end this list with songs by that title (LOL). I love this wizard rap track!

His vocals are amazing with a cadence that keeps you guessing and rich lyrics about the Hufflepuff life, figures such as Newt Scamander and Pomona Sprout, and loads of clever references.

A fun music video allows us to live in the Hufflepuff party of our dreams (and it looks really good). Amontiock the Mythmaker is a multifandom musical improv performer and I hope we get more wrock from him. 

4 – Huff and Puff

Huff and Puff by filker Rainbow Emma appeared on the 2018 Wizard Rock Sampler. (Thank you to Susannah for the recommendation!) This ukelele tune imagines that Hufflepuffs developed a superior, magical strain.

3 – Sexy Hufflepuff Party

The most-played song on Kathryn Hoss’s 2020 tour de force Hufflepuffs Make Better Lovers, EDM bop Sexy Hufflepuff Party does not disappoint. It has it all: Ke$ha energy, bisexual love triangles, Hufflepuff’s radical inclusion of all Houses at their parties, and a reference to getting high, of course!

(And while you’re there, might as well listen to the rest of the album. Trust me – songs like Hermione Granger’s Not a Transphobe and The Price of Love will feed your soul.)

2 – Hufflepuff Gets Down

This dope tune from 2019 by Celtic nerd folk band The Stubby Shillelaghs reassures newly-sorted Hufflepuffs that they’re in the best House. I can’t help but grin and dance along to the sounds of another lit Hufflepuff shindig.

But then Snape “confiscates” their bong! xD

Finally, we arrive at the brilliant reggae Hufflepuff Puff Pass by wrock star Ashley Hamel – a song that deserves to be reviewed properly (high) – which The Wrock Snob did upon its release in 2019. 420/420.

Honorable Mention: While I don’t think Justin Finch-Fletchley and the Sugar Quills ever directly reference the trope, their whole shtick just gives the vibe.

Hufflepuffs aside, potion masters reign supreme in the world of weed-zard rap on tracks including Dumbledore Kush by LiL iFFy, Harry Slaughter’s Potion Mixin Master, and Sorcerers Stoned from Aguamenti and Bisexual Harry.
