As someone who discovered the world of wizard rock via the Transfiguration compilation in 2020, I have little authority to compile the ultimate playlist of publicly-available, explicitly transgender wrock. But here we are, and here it is!

While queer wizard rock has been here from the start, trans artists did not start singing about transness until Tianna and the Cliffhangers released Picking Up Where You Left Off in 2015. Then the prolific Totally Knuts exploded onto the scene in 2017 with Fresh, Spooky, & Queer. We also got AJ Solomon in 2018 and the Wizards Give A Shit! compilation in 2019 before jkr’s transphobic reveal spurred new urgency in trans wrock.

Since then, we have been blessed with the contributions of Aguamenti, Ariel Factor Birdoff, Bisexual Harry ;), Kathryn Hoss, and Hogwarts Therapist, as well as many other artists who are trans or allude to trans wrock matters. And yes, trans wrock matters! Harry Potter isn’t going anywhere, but fandom is incredibly powerful at drowning out transphobia and improving the experience of trans fans. You’ve improved mine.
