Happy May, wrockers! Dive into the candy box, find inspiration. Every month we choose another theme, then we share creations we did dream.
April’s prompt was poetry, and plenty of wizard rockers shared some well-chosen words.
TK of Totally Knuts started off Poetry Month with their signature succinct style:
It’s poetry time
You know what that means, don’t you?
Another haiku!
Libby of Potterwatch submitted a Severus Snape sonnet from her archives:
From squalid soil a shriveled sapling sprang,
Which grew into a convoluted tree,
Whose listless leaves from blackened branches hang,
Its twisted shape compelled the birds to flee.
It gave no shade or succor to the tired,
And bore no fruits or flowers on its limbs.
Abhorrence and disquiet it inspires,
Except in those who offer it a hymn.
For though the tree fell many seasons past,
In falling, it revealed its fortitude,
For fire, disease, and drought did it outlast,
And by its loss, the forest was renewed.
And in the spring, when sunshine melts the snows,
Within its limbs, a silver lily grows.
I wrote about an astronomer ascending and assaying:
Climbing the stairs of the tower like always
But it’s been all summer since last I was here
I almost expect a new ghost in the hallways
Perhaps he just thinks it’s too soon to appear
I have my curriculum planned out already
And hours till students will start to arrive
But I will need all that time just to be steady
And focus on those who are here and alive
They say that the high ground will give you advantage
But gravity’s power is often unmatched
I start on assessing the telescope’s damage
And cry when I see it got through only scratched
I don’t understand why the scratch is what does it
I don’t even know what emotion this is
The telescope’s fine. It wasn’t hurt, was it?
And I wasn’t even a good friend of his.
Ending on a happier note, the Wizard Rock Discord composed a completely collaborative community poem:
Wizard rock brings me joy
The music and the words
The sounds provoke nostalgia
But they look to the future too
Whether you be loud or not
Serious or silly, we have fun
Pride flows through wrock
This month, let’s take our inspiration from names. Sing a song that features a character name, your name, or the name of another artist. Do some visual art based around a name. Dig into etymology and wordplay. Any direction you want to explore is welcome, and so is any medium in which you’d like to try creating. May you all have a wonderful month ahead!
