Happy December! Welcome to this month’s Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Jam, a creative challenge with a new prompt every month. I hope you’re all prepared for the month ahead, but if you’re feeling too overwhelmed for a big new project, I’ve got you covered. Read on to see what I mean.
In November, our theme was letters. A lot of wrockers and community were otherwise occupied during the month, but I did see some discussion of writing letters to Wizard Santa. If that’s your jam, go for it, and share if you like!
I was inspired to throw together a last-minute Dots and Lines cover of a tangentially-related song, the Magical Railways of the World™ Theme Song by Candle Wix. Reading the notes under the song, I couldn’t help noticing Sagan of Candle Wix named the Hogwarts Express engineer Ash Thornyogh, a name made up of three letters you don’t see often today: ash (Æ), thorn (Þ), and yogh (?). When Sagan writes about obscure characters, they write about obscure characters. Naturally, I took that as an excuse to cover the song and count it as something related to letters. Here’s a link to listen to it.
As the end of the year can be hectic, December’s prompt is quick creations. Don’t spend a lot of time on what you make for this month’s Jam. Take just five minutes for a drawing, cover a song in one casual take, record something new that’s only four seconds long, or do whatever comes easiest to you!
