The Album
This is not the original cover art, but was created especially for this rerelease!
Happy Saturday, my mellow friends! It’s time to grab a butterbeer and settle in for today’s review of The Butterdemo II. Originally released by The Buttermellows on January 8th of 2010, it was rereleased on the Wizrocklopedia on September 18, 2020. This buttery demo has five tracks, so let’s go!
The Tracks
Never Been So High is up first. The singular voice is strong and compliments the guitar very nicely. It’s a catchy song that makes me think of flying high into the clouds on a broomstick. Sipping Butterbeer, sunny days, and laying on the grounds of Hogwarts also come to mind.
The guitar mellows out for One Last Scar. It’s a softer song, full of melancholy, sincerity, and memories. Remus Lupin is my favorite character, so I really enjoyed this one. The lyrics tell of what Remus’s life has been like and what he needs to do going forward, even if he doesn’t believe in himself.
Next up is Queen of Mean. I love the upbeat tempo and minor melody in this song. My favorite line in this song is:
Some people think you’re funny, but I don’t think you’re worth the laugh.
A Foot to Silver has a scrumptious guitar part throughout the song. I love the chorus and how hard it hits. The emotions – longing, frustration, and exhaustion are translated very well into the lyrics.
The final song of the album is called Hold On. It’s a soft, sad song. When it seems that all is lost, don’t give up hope. Find your friends, your lovers, and your family. This is a beautiful way to wrap up this powerful and emotional album.
In Summary
A single guitar and a solo voice are the only two things that are heard in this album. Even though there are just two layers, the emotion shows through and the powerful lyrics give life to each song. The frankness of every track shows how much was put into making each piece. Give it a listen and let me know what you think!
