The Album
Today’s album will be The Ghosts Of Godric’s Hollow EP by Let’s Lumos! Since this EP is only two tracks long, I’m also going to add their singles that you can find on their Bandcamp page. The singles include a cover of The Rains of Castamere from Game of Thrones, and a song that features Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls! Without further ado, let’s step into the cemetery and see what ghosts we can find.
The Tracks
The Ghosts of Godric’s Hollow EP is up first, with two songs. Song number one is entitled The Grave. This is an absolutely gorgeous song that legitimately gave me chills. The solo voice is sweet and ethereal, and when it is joined by ghostly harmonies, I am simply obsessed. The piano in the background provides a lilting melody as a foundation for the floating voices and haunting lyrics. I love sad wrock songs so much, and this one definitely fits the bill.
The second and final song of the EP is called I Close My Eyes. This song is just as beautiful and haunting as the first. The piano plays a gorgeous and longing song alongside echoing percussion before the vocals come in. This is a masterpiece of a work, making me envision mist over a deep dark lake. The use of echoes in this song really does it justice.
We’re heading over to Amortentia (ft. Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls), which comes next after the 2009 EP chronologically. As keeping with the ethereally beautiful theme, the track starts off beautifully, with vocals and instrumentals alike taking flight. The addition of more intense percussion works so well, and, surprising no one, I love the harmonies. Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls come in during the second verse, and as a long time fan of his, I am delighted to hear how well his voice fits in with the song. It ends abruptly, leaving me wanting more.
Teddy’s Lullaby is next, released in the summer of 2012. A quiet and solemn piano is accompanied by soft birdsong. “I live forever inside your tears” is such a heartbreaking and perfect line. I love sad wrock, and this hit me in all the right places. I felt this song in my gut. What a lovely piece.
The final song by Let’s Lumos! that I will be reviewing today is a cover of The Rains of Castamere from Game of Thrones. I love the book series and the song plays a very important part of the plot. The way that this cover is performed, a capella, with tons of delicious harmonies, also gave me chills. The emotion in the voices is absolutely amazing. I’m in love.
In Summary
I think it’s safe to say that Let’s Lumos! has quickly become one of my new favorite wizard rock bands. Even though they don’t have a lot, what they do have is of the utmost quality and musicianship. I’m sad that the last song they released came out in 2013 – maybe I should see what they’re up to these days? In any case, I am floored by all of these incredible songs and I hope that you are too! Let me know what you think in the comments! Until next time, my friends.
