Welcome back, folks! This here is the second part of the Wizrocklopedia’s Wizard Rock Six Month Report for January-June 2021! If you’d like, you can check out part one right here and part three right here! We barely got halfway through March on last week’s installment, so let’s jump right back into the music without any more delays!
As always, if we missed anything, let us know in the comments below or by emailing wizrocklopedia [at] gmail [dot] com!
(I forgot to include this release in the first part—sorry!)
March 5: Ashley Hamel – “All of Our Futures (Live):” YouTube
Originally released on the 2020 Wizard Rock Sampler, Ashley Hamel released this truly magical live studio version of her song “All of Our Futures” in March! If you don’t have a tear in your eye by the end of it, I will be SURPRISED.
March 15: Percy & the Prefects – “Houses Me:” WZRD Radio
The ever-incredible Percy & the Prefects have a new song inspired by one of the Wizrocklopedia’s Bertie Botts Every Flavor Jams challenges! In March, they were interviewed by wizard rock podcast WZRD Radio, and the studio version of that for now lives only on that episode! Discussing Harry’s home and lack thereof, it is an AMAZING song.
March 19: Nagini – Snake Bite album: Bandcamp
The March Archive Releases for the Wizrocklopedia were part of the complete discography of Nagini, an awesome NYC-based wrocker whose stuff has been out of print for far too long! This is their 2007 album, a slice of acoustic wrock and clever songwriting!
March 19: Nagini – Hex, Blood and Rock and Roll album: Bandcamp
This is Nagini’s “greatest hits” album, comprising songs from many different projects (including a few non-wizard rock ones!). It’s so good!
March 27: Percy & the Prefects – “Never Thought:” Bandcamp | iTunes | Spotify | YouTube
Even MORE new Percy & the Prefects? You know it! This one’s a heartfelt hard rock song from Remus Lupin’s perspective!
March 28: Candle Wix – “Fenrir Greyback’s Happy Song (Demo):” Bandcamp
It me! I wrote, recorded and released this extremely silly lil’ ditty in one day! It’s just a demo—but I think it’s pretty funny!
March 28: The Weirdos are Out – The Weirdos are Out album: Bandcamp | Spotify | YouTube
The Weirdos Are Out (formerly known as Losing Lara) included 5 wizard rock songs on her debut full-length album (which also has songs about RPGs, TV shows and more)! The songs are lilting and thoughtful—what Losing Lara does best!
April 2: MC Kreacher – Alone in the Dark EP: Bandcamp
In April, the Wizrocklopedia was unbelievably proud to be able to rerelease the one and only EP by wizard rapper MC Kreacher. This is a truly legendary wizard rock release—give it a listen and prepare to have your jaw hit the floor!
April 3: Bradley’s Ukulele – “You Can’t Speak Snake:” YouTube
Bradley from Draco & the Malfoys is currently creating an ongoing series of silly ukulele cover songs and tutorials on YouTube! Of course, he’s including some wizard rock songs! This one’s a cover of the Moaning Myrtles classic.
April 10: Witherwings – Live at the Library EP: Bandcamp
In April 2008, Witherwings performed a concert in Orlando, Florida Public Library. 13 (!) years later, they released the live concert recording as an EP
April 11: Dots & Lines – “Little Bottle of Luck:” YouTube
This delightful single by Dots & Lines is a parody of They Might Be Giants’ classic song “Lie Still Little Bottle”—rewritten about Felix Felicis of course!
April 11: Nanzdemort – “SBlack Soul:” Bandcamp
Exciting new Mexican wrocker Nanzdemort burst on the scene with these instrumental guitar jams. “SBlack Soul” was written to musically express Sirius Black’s story!
April 12: Nanzdemort – “Veil:” Bandcamp
The companion piece to “SBlack Soul,” released a day later, is “Veil!” Although it’s much shorter, this one feels like a fittingly melancholy ending to Black’s life.
April 13: Percy & the Prefects – Live at O.W.L. Fest 2021 album: Bandcamp | iTunes | Spotify | YouTube
That’s right y’all! Even more new Percy & the Prefects! On March 27, they played a virtual concert as part of O.W.L. Fest 2021! The sound was so good that they decided to release it as a proper live album—and we are eternally grateful that they did! Their songwriting and musical chops are astounding!
April 16: Nagini – 12 Foot Blues album: Bandcamp
What’s that? You want more Nagini music? Well, there is! On April 16, the ‘Pedia rereleased 3 more of their albums. 12 Foot Blues is a compilation of various awesome singles that weren’t on an official release!
April 16: Nagini with Alastor – Twin Cores album: Bandcamp
Twin Cores is an album about unlikely HP ships and love stories, both from the original books and from Nagini’s own mind!
April 16: Nagini & Split Seven Ways – Running in the Dark, Alone album: Bandcamp
That’s right! In 2008, Nagini did a collaborative album with Split Seven Ways (who has also been rereleasing some of her work lately)! It’s a mix of wizard rock songs and Doctor Who songs—and it’s all awesome!
April 17: Bradley’s Ukulele – “Wizard ADD:” YouTube
Bradley from Draco & the Malfoys continues to include the occasional wizard rock cover in his delightful series of ukulele tutorials. In April, he did an amazing cover of Abby Ritter’s “Wizard ADD!”
Wow! So much great music both new and old. We’re not close to being finished, but we’re entering the homestretch now! Come back for the third and final part of the Wizard Rock Six Month Report next Monday—and boy howdy, is there a lot of awesome music still to come!
And…if you read all the way to the end, we’ve got a surprise for you! To celebrate the amazing creations of the wrock community this year, we’re hosting a Bandcamp gift card giveaway!
