Happy May! The owls have brought two creations for last month’s theme of birds, as well as a new theme for this month.
First, TK of Totally Knuts shows in poem form how birds have featured in their music so far:
“Goodbye” for Hedwig
“Phoenix Flames” – 2018
Oh look! A haiku
Indeed, the beautifully sad “Goodbye” from the Totally Knuts album “Phoenix Flames” is an excellent example of bird-centered wrock, as is the more hopeful “Phoenix Song” from the same album. Both merit a listen even if you’ve already heard the songs.
Meanwhile, Dream Quaffle has created a whole new bird-related song to celebrate Ravenclaw and its animal symbol, the eagle. “It’s an Eagle” is bright, cheery a capella expression of Ravenclaw pride. As a Ravenclaw myself, I’m quite pleased to see such a positive addition to the few Ravenclaw songs out there. Even more excitingly, “It’s an Eagle” is Dream Quaffle’s first single, and they’ve been creating more music since its release. It’s good to have another talented artist creating wizard rock!
Mermanda recorded “Ravendor”, a song featuring romance across two houses, animal wordplay, and a birdlike flute. Ravenclaw and Gryffindor are a pairing not seen too often in wrock, so it’s fun to hear Mermanda’s take!
Now that we’ve paid tribute to our feathered friends, it’s time for a new theme. The theme for May is pictures. Whether that means Colin Creevey, Hogwarts portraits, or venturing into visual art, I look forward to seeing what you have in mind! Don’t forget, all forms of media are welcome, as are projects at any level of completion. Have fun and go create!
