The Album
Happy Saturday y’all! Let’s fly across the pond today to visit France! This EP by French wrock band The Basilisk in Your Pasta was originally released as part of the 2008 Wizard Rock EP of the Month Club on November 1st of that year. It was rereleased on September 4, 2020. I am happy to present (and review) I Ate My Frog (Again). Let’s… hop to it!
The Tracks
The EP starts off with a very nice guitar solo in Muggletown. When a couple of witches head into the Muggle world to have some fun, they find themselves attempting to recognize non-magical objects, trying out new drinks at a Muggle pub, and seeing if they can learn more about the non-magical world. This song is laid-back and fun – a great start to this EP!
Voldemort – Peace Off is next up. With a groovy rhythm provided by shakers and guitar, we are introduced to a world of similes about the Dark Lord and a long list of people that he shouldn’t kill. It’s catchy, fun, and a great song to move to.
The next song has a rock vibe to it with lower vocals than we are used to hearing. Bewitch Me, Babe is a raunchy tune with moving rhythms that back up a witch and wizard having a conversation about their relationship.
Potterwatch will always be a classic wizard rock song to me. It was one of the first wrock songs I had ever heard from a mixtape that a friend had made me. To this day, I still love this song. The upbeat strumming of the guitar and the harmonies along with the lyrics make this song inspiring and strong. This is a song I will always sing along to.
A bumping beat and rock guitar introduce us to Bad Guy. This song is great to head-bang to (or head-bob if you’re like me and don’t want to get whiplash). The chorus is repetitive and has one simple message: I need a bad guy.
The last song on the EP is called One Day at Hogsmeade. It’s a beautiful song, and a lovely end to the EP. It is about snow falling down on Hogsmeade and how beautiful it looks. This song will have you swaying along, wishing you were sitting down for a mug of hot chocolate in the snow-covered town.
In Summary
I Ate My Frog (Again) is an incredibly lovely EP that has it all – amazing vocals, witty lyrics, and beautiful instrumentals. The French accents give it a unique sound that makes this wrock band recognizable and loved. I enjoyed listening to this EP, and I encourage you to check it out! I give this EP a rating of One Delicious Frog.
