We’ve made it to December, friends! Welcome to the last Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Jam of 2020. November’s theme of “Diagon Alley” sparked a big response, so let’s dive right in to everyone’s wonderful creations – and remember, read to the end of the post to find out December’s theme and see how you can join in the fun!
Let’s go through last month’s creations in reverse order, shall we? That means we get to start with a new set of lyrics from Dots and Lines, parodying a RiddleTM song! It’s not often that an original wizard rock song gets parodied into something else, and to parody it into a muggle song is totally inspired.
To the tune of Hey! Mr. Ollivander by RiddleTM:
There’s a shop in Phoenix, Arizona
And half of all the country will come there, you see
He finds shoes for ballerinas about to go en pointe
And he knows just how to fit them
So he’ll never disappoint
Hey Mr. Pointe Shoe Fitter
What shoes are you finding today?
I’m always here for songs about ballet, and I can’t wait to see how the song gets finished!
Now let’s dig into Totally Knuts’ cover of “Diagon Alley” by Tonks and the Aurors! This song sounds absolutely dreamy on ukulele, and TK’s vocals really blew me away here. The vocal flips into their falsetto are flawless, folks. “Heaven is a street in London where you kissed me” feels absolutely nostalgic and tender in this delivery, and I am obsessed with it.
Next up, Candle Wix brought in an awesome new demo called ““Diagon Alley in the Time of Covid-19 (A Capella Demo)” about what Diagon Alley might look like during a pandemic. The lyrics transition from a grim view of an empty Alley (with a great joke about nobody in Knockturn Alley wearing masks) into a hopeful look at the things waiting on the horizon. “But don’t fret too much, although it’s OK to be sad / We can link mirrors and talk about all the good times we had” is definitely my favorite lyric. This a cappella demo is just a hint of things to come, but the melody immediately made me want to hear a full band version of this as a folk song! You’re able to download the demo in the meantime, which is really cool.
Okay, this next one is from me, doing a cover of “Quiet Night” by the band Diagon Alley. They used to end shows with this song, and it was always a wonderful moment of singalong and connection.
And rounding things up is Totally Knuts again – that’s right, they submitted two creative works last month! Their creative flow is admirable, and you’re going to love this little poem about getting lost while going shopping. It’s even shaped diagonally!

Those pieces of art were so creative and wonderful, and it really warmed my heart to see them. Thank you to everyone who’s participated in a Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Jam so far – it’s a joy to see what you create. So, ready to dive into December’s theme? This month we’re going with something simple: “snow.”
Everyone is invited to respond to this month’s theme in some creative way – we’ve seen poems, visual art, song covers, lyric drafts, and fully produced songs so far! Make a video of you dancing to a Jingle Spells jam, paint a Hogwarts landscape during winter months, make a beat that sounds like snow falling, or build a magical snow creature if the weather allows. Express yourself in any way you like, and post it in the comments for us to enjoy and celebrate! I’ll collect all of the art that’s shared and put it into next month’s post. It doesn’t have to be fancy or even finished – it’s just exciting to see what everyone’s dreaming up together. Be bold and have fun – I can’t wait to see what you create!
