The Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Jam is a monthly challenge where everyone is encouraged to share a creative response to a theme. For September, our theme was “Houses!” Let’s look back at the amazing things people made over the past month (and a quick thank you to Tiffany for our amazing new banner!).
First up, there’s a gorgeous Slytherin crest hand-drawn by SlytherSpouse! The stylized snake is so cool, and I love the contrast of the green eye on top of that grey stripe. Any Slytherin would be proud to wear this on their robes!
Next up, Dots and Lines created an entire song about the “Ravenclaw Quidditch Team.” This demo features a lovely little a capella melody and some great lyrics like, “Why not learn now if you’re already here?” which has got to sum up the Ravenclaw experience pretty well. It’s a great demo, and I hope it shows up on a future Dots and Lines album one day!
Finally, TK of Totally Knuts is back with another lovely song – this time, it’s a loving parody ode to Brian, Jill, and the House Show Series at Malfoy Manor. You’ve never heard “My Dad Is Rich” sound as sweet as it does when it’s turned into the heartfelt “Brian and Jill.” We’ll remember those house shows with fondness, for sure.
Now, onto October! It’s a month of tricks and treats, of surprises of all kinds. It seems only appropriate that this month’s challenge is: “Do something that scares you.” That’s right! Anything that scares you (even just a little bit) is what the Jams require this month. Maybe for you that’s playing a new instrument, collaborating with a wizard rocker you admire, dancing on camera, writing wizard rock in another language, or even just submitting a piece of art to this challenge. You can interpret this challenge in any way you want – want to write a song about a character doing something that scares them? Sure! – and respond in any media you like. No need to be fancy or professional, this is all just for fun.
Comment with whatever you make and we’ll include it in next month’s round-up! Be brave – we want to see what you come up with.
And just as a quick note: don’t worry if you ever “miss the deadline” to submit something you’ve made for one of these challenges. I keep up with all the comments and will add “late” submissions to the post they belong in, so you might just notice a new Percy and the Prefects song on last month’s post! Time is relative, just keep making cool stuff.
