Since our last round of posts, a number of new wizard rock songs, EPs, and albums have been released on platforms ranging from BandCamp to iTunes and the good ol’ fashioned CD.

To help try and catch everyone up on what’s come out over the past few months, here’s a list of releases that bands either let us know about, or we found via the usual social media platforms. Some of these releases are available as a free download, while others are available for a minimal price.

Singles:

“Boy Who Lived” by Backtalk. While this Boston band isn’t a wrock band, this song is definitely wizard rock. If you count “I Wish You’d Be My Witch” from The Mudbloods as one of your favorite wrock songs, then you absolutely will love this one.

EPs:

“Erised Night” by Erised Night. This debut EP came out a few months ago, and contains some original songs as well as a Butterbeer Experience cover song. It’s a solid debut and will definitely appeal to fans of piano-based wizard rock. Editors note: this EP actually came out a few YEARS ago (2012) however when we compiled this list, we accidentally took the email Erised Night sent us about making new music this summer and listed this album as a new release. 

“The Horcruxes EP” by The Puffskein Experience. Wizard rock fans who saw Miranda perform at LeakyStars this year can now pick up her brand new EP. This seven song release is a concept album of sorts, with each song being about one of Voldemort’s horcruxes.

“A Summer at Spinner’s End” by Slytherin Soundtrack. Brett is back with another wrock EP, this one featuring seven acoustic songs with a bit of a dark and overcast feeling. Be sure to check it out, along with his April 2014 release “One More Butterbeer” which features fifteen full-band songs. 

“By The Window” by Ashley Hamel. Wrock fans are familiar with Ashley from her previous band, Bella and Le Strangers, and also from her recent tour with Grace Kendall/Snidget. While the bulk of this EP isn’t wizard rock, anyone who’s been to a Potter con will definitely enjoy (and relate to) the lead track from Ashley’s new EP.

Albums:

“The World Is Full Of Magic” by Band in a Horcrux. BiaH is a newer band, who first appeared earlier this year at some shows in New York. Their debut album can be purchased on CD or as a digital download, and makes me think strongly of what an upscale wizard jazz duo playing in a classy wizarding restaurant would sound like. Definitely unique, and definitely good.

“Accio Mind Bleach” by Dawlish and the Archies. While it’s technically a new album, these songs were originally recorded and put out in limited release in 2010. So to many wizard rock fans, these will be new songs. The bulk of them are NSFW, in fact they may not be safe for ANYWHERE. This is most assuredly NOT a family friendly album, and we mean that in the best possible way.

“1975” by The Whomping Willows. Whompy teased wrock fans for over a year with his latest album, a concept work that revolves around The Whomping Willow’s adventures with the students at Hogwarts in the Marauders era. The album is mostly acoustic, and harkens back to Matt’s original wizard rock roots. You can order a CD or purchase a digital copy on iTunes if you weren’t a Kickstarter backer.

“Cheat to Win” by Draco and the Malfoys. After lamenting that they “should’ve done more stuff in the books” back on It’s A Slytherin World, DatM dug deep into their well of ideas for their comeback album. Like Whompy, they’ve gone back to their classic rock sound, and the lyrics are as tongue in cheek hilarious as ever.
