A lot has changed since Wizard Rock and the Wizrocklopedia began. We have gone through multiple editors in chief, editors, contributors, photographers, etc (And I love every single one of them – seriously, with all of my heart – past and present – I hope they all know that.) We have gone through many different ideas, and different columns. Something that was always a vital part of this website, of this community, was the sharing of pictures from shows. I know people haven’t stopped taking photos at shows, it has, at least in my honest opinion, become easier than ever for people to take awesome photos at concerts (well you know, with all of those smart phones with 8 MP or better cameras attached out there 😀 )
I also do not want people to worry about “quality” of the photos. To be honest, that isn’t what I – or anyone on this team is looking for. Yes, we can all appreciate photographs taken with DSLRs and yes you will see those photos up here on display, but to be completely honest, my photos are taken with my iPhone – because it is my camera of convenience. I love sharing anyones photos, and I love sharing photos of wizard rock shows. Pictures from house shows, large con shows, impromptu acoustic shows in a hotel room or common room, outside bonfire shows, yule balls, any type of wizard rock – I love sharing these pictures, these experiences, with other people. If it wasn’t for this website, I wouldn’t have found a hobby in photography, and I wouldn’t appreciate pictures as much as I do now. Blurry backgrounds (or foregrounds,) weird faces, interesting moments, awkward moments, smiling faces, circles of wizards for “The Weapon,” these are all pictures that should be shared, and will be shared, if they are only submitted.
I found about this site because one of my photos was used. I then started contributing my photos for the site to use, and then I got added on as staff. I am telling this story, and writing these words because without fan contributions of photos, this column never would have started and it cannot continue. I know that not everyone has a flickr.com account and some people would not like to submit their photos in that way. I am working on brainstorming other ways for people to submit photos for use on this site. One way that I have come up with so far is for people to email me photos – I can post them up on the flickr feed (with credit of course). The email I created is camie.wizrocklopedia@gmail.com. There are a few other ideas that are being thrown around to help with picture submissions – but those are currently still in the future and not quite ready for prime time.
Please, if you have any photos (and I mean any photos) please submit them. Also if you have any ideas on how to get people to submit photos please add them in the comments. I know I am open to pretty much any idea, and I am sure I can convince others to follow along 🙂
