Yay, the ballot is up! Question: How will the votes be weighted differently if you make only one choice for a category vs ranking all the choices? Is picking just one out of 5 candidates equivalent to giving all the others a 3.5 ranking?

I’m still working my way down the list of nominations, I wanna give every nomination a fair listen since so many are songs or bands that I never heard before…

I’d also very much like to know how *all* the votes are going to be counted, both ranked and single votes and what the difference is. Is a two a half vote, a three a third of a vote and so forth? I don’t want to vote yet because I don’t really understand what what my votes actually *mean* being that there’s two different ways to vote.

Just as an FYI for others submitting. The final confirmation emails go directly into my gmail’s spam folder. It took me a moment, or two, to figure it out.

Could you please clarify the difference between the two kinds of voting? How are the votes counted if we vote for multiple bands in a category?

We are using ranked pairs, which you can read all about here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranked_Pairs

They have a pretty clear example of how it works.

Oh, I just read the article, and I like that system a LOT.

So, wait…what was the round before this one where you could vote for all these categories except for the last few?

NO NO NO WAY. WE STILL GET MULTIPLE VOTES (albeit ranked ones?) YES YES YES YES

Wow, the album of the year category is INSANE. Every single one of those albums is legitimately incredible, and (in my opinion) the best work of each band to date.

(I’m not even going to talk about band of the year. That’s just physically painful.)

Not that every single category wasn’t absurdly difficult to vote on, but that is an astoundingly strong field.

    Oh crap!

The email to confirm my votes showed up in my spam folder, and I accidentally deleted it. Crap. Um.

    Hm.

What can I do about this? 😛

Marauder, the last round was just the nominations, where you filled everything in yourself.

Andrew, you’re going to have to resubmit it. 🙁 I’m sorry!

Right, right, right…the stress of exams is getting to me. 🙂

I’m still trying to wrap my head around all the implications of Ranked Pairs.

I understand that either voting for just one out of 5 options, or ranking that option #1 in a complete list, both give it four “head to head” victories against the other options. But if I rank a #2, that gives it 3 victories against the remaining options. So can that actually help the one I ranked at #2 beat the one I ranked at #1, when all the other voters are included?

I’m just trying to figure out the philosophy behind each choice. If I strongly feel that a certain option is the best, would I be better served to leave the others unranked? Or does it not matter?

If you feel ONE option is best, just pick that one option. If you can’t decide between 2, make them #1 and #2. If you’re REALLY having trouble deciding, rank all of them.
    Does that help?

Okay, that makes sense. Selecting the winner should be my #1 priority. I think with surveys like this I get caught thinking “Option A should definitely win, but option C deserves to be in second place”.

That helps a lot. Thanks Freya!
