Over the past few weeks, we’ve had a quick flashback of wizard rock from 2009. Now it’s time to make some tough decisions.
This year for the WRPCAs, we’re doing things a little bit differently.
You’ll notice that there are less categories, but we have added some new ones like Best Merch Item and Best Instrumental Musicianship. Unfortunately, after brainstorming here on the ‘pedia, we realized that some song categories didn’t seem to have a lot of representation, so we took them out.
We have also decided that for some awards, last year’s winner is not eligible again this year. These are all clearly stated on the nomination form, along with last year’s winner, so please read it carefully. You don’t want your vote to go to waste!
For the final round of voting, each category will have five nominees. If there is a category where there are not many nominees, we may make it three or four nominees. Also in the final round, we will have a way to make sure that the votes are not split. If a band is nominated twice in a song category, we will make sure that the band gets an equal chance of winning by using a ranking system that will be explained when we do the final voting.
The last change we made may be a bit controversial, but overall, we decided it is a definite benefit to the nomination process. We will count the votes, and the top four nominees will automatically be on the final ballot. For the fifth nominee, we may take the fifth place nominee, or we may decide to choose something else to be the fifth choice. No one will know who we added (if anyone) except us. Since we are doing this, we will not be submitting our own nomination forms this year. This applies to me, Dinah, and Art, WRPCA tech guy extraordinaire.
Dinah and I spend a good portion of our time exploring the wizard rock scene to find things to write about and introduce you to. We feel that this means we are exposed to a broader range of wizard rock than the average listener, and we would like that knowledge to go into the WRPCAs. We have included Art in this to be an objective third party. The final votes will not be altered in any way, so you might discover someone new that you love through this process, even if you don’t end up voting for them. If anyone wants to discuss this, feel free to leave a comment or email me at freya@wizrocklopedia.com. As always, we love getting your feedback.
Our lives will be much easier if you spell things correctly, so we ask that you please try your best.
You will need to provide an email address so that you can verify your nominations. Your votes won’t be counted until you verify them. Nominations and final votes from different email addresses that are obviously the same person will ALL be thrown out.
Nominations will run from right now until Friday, April 9th, at 11:59pm EST.
