Get a Little Lovecraft this #MuggleMusicMonday

I’m at ends with myself. Does it count as “Muggle” music if it’s about everything H.P. Lovecraft? I mean, really… there’s not much “non-magical” about that, is there?

Despite my inner turmoil on the matter, seeing as this band does not write about Harry Potter, I am happy to present to all of you a freaking awesome rock band, The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets. First of all, I’d like to profusely thank the glorious Matt Sweeney of Free-Geek.net for bringing the Thickets more to my attention and for helping me get my hands on more than just a single song from them.

Anyway! A bit about the band… from their own webpage… “The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets is a rock band that is dedicated to promoting the literature of H.P. Lovecraft, who wrote of lost cities, tainted geneology, alien gods, and that fabled tome, The Necronomicon. The Thickets haven’t been able to get ahold of the ancient spellbook, but they’ve got their own brand of corruption. They’re on a Lovecraft binge of madness, and they mean to take you with them.”

Seriously. How can you not want to?

Jon, you can thank Matt for this! I had only heard a single song from them until he heartily recommended them for MMM and helped me get my hands on some more of their music.

Of course, the song I had heard, ‘Kill the Chupracabra’, is freaking awesome and at some point would have been enough to get me to write about them anyway. XD

@Dianahsaur I have no idea why, but I think you should listen to Cryoshell. They’re a rock band who do music for the LEGO Bionicle commercials. Dang, I’m saying commercials now!

Thickets are great, but The Contrarian’s Lovecraft-inspired album, “Eldritch Musicks,” might even be cooler. Listen here:

There’s even a short story that goes with it…
