I am always looking to expand my wizard rock collection, so this question is a little selfish.
Who do you think is an underappreciated band?
This doesn’t have to be a band that no one has ever heard of, but it should be one that you haven’t heard much hype about but think is really good. Hopefully we will all get some new music to listen to out of this.
My underappreciated band is The Purebloods. They have less than 1,000 friends on MySpace, and I don’t understand why. These girls can really belt it out and their songs have me constantly tapping my feet. Their lyrics are quite amusing at times as well.
Question Tuesday!

If we have to choose just one, then I guess I’ll go with Neville’s Diary. His music is so great, and its such a unique and interesting concept – each of the songs are diary entries written by Neville. He has less than 500 friends! Go check his stuff out. NAOW. “Pansy Looks Like A Dude” is AMAZING.
-
I think Peeved is the wittiest lyricist I’ve heard, I always enjoy his stuff. I’ll check out the purebloods and Neville’s Diary, I know I should be friends with them on Myspace, but I know I’m not the best at always listening and supporting their music.
-
I agree with Zivlok – Neville’s Diary, DEFINITELY. I teach orchestra, so the fact that he is a band teacher just makes me like him a lot more. My favorite song of his is “Oh, Pomona,” about Professor Sprout. So cute!
-
@Zivlok: Feel free to choose more. Enlighten us, please! 🙂
-
Oh yes. Neville’s Diary and Peeved for sure. I’d also add Into the Pensieve to that list.
-
I must be way too into this. I thought everyone knew about Peeved and Nevile’s Diary.
Seriously!? He only has 500 friends.I have not really listened to The Purebloods and Into The Pensieve, I shall do that now.
The Victoria Wizarding Romance Society is a goo one.
-
I really like The Purebloods too, especially there ‘Unbreakable Vow’ song… the lyrics are pretty good and the voices amasing!
-
Yeah, I was surprised to find that Peeved only has about 800, I thought for sure he had more than that!
A pretty unknown band that is pretty amazing is Fawkes. There are only a few wrap groups out there, and Fawkes is right up there with Danny Dementor. “Gears and Cranks” is actually a bit weak, but every other track is absolutely amazing. A sample of the lyrics:
“Aw, yeah, I’m Rubeus,
I’m the bearded giant dude so don’t mess with this”“First you must master Expecto Patronum,
Conjure the light, and you can 1337 pwn them.”So, yeah, you should all check out Fawkes.
Luna’s Ceiling is also really good and pretty unknown. It’s definitely electronic – not necessarily techno, but more techno’s older, moody brother. “Lestrangelove” and “Hide No More” are must-listens.
Also, I’m surprised to find that the awesome Buckbeak’s Flight has less than 400 friends! Buckbeak’s Flight is just a kid, an acoustic guitar, some looped drum beats, and hilarious lyrics.
Also, Luna Wants A Long Bottom is great.
I think that actually some of these bands aren’t truly lesser-known, but they’re only known to the sorts of people who would read the Wizrocklopedia, and such. Also, some of the bands are in the less mainstream genres (for wizard rock, at least, which is mostly the very broad genre of “rock/folk/guitar” sort of stuff), such as rap and electronic. I mean, technically, the Basilisk In Your Pasta is lesser-known, because they have only 900 friends! Yet I think that most people who visit this site have heard of them. Same thing goes for the Giant Squidstravaganza.
Ahem. Sort of went on a tangent there. Sorry.
Anywho, I highly recommend checking out Fawkes, and demanding that he make more music.
-
I can’t stop listening to The Struggle of a Muggle. Seriously so good.
Wizards of Death Metal are fairly rad as well. They just to parodys, but they’re damn good parodys.
-
Sister Dumbledore. They need way more songs, too 🙂
Potter Ink. Definitely agree on Into the Pensieve. The Brothers Black. Helloween.
-
My god, what ever happened to Potter Inc? or Ink? Whatever? I liked them a lot
-
My vote, like a lot of you, is for Peeved. Brilliant artist. Helluva nice guy.
I’ll also throw House of Black out there as well.
-
Like a lot of you have said already: Peeved. He was one of the first lesser known wizard rockers I really started listening to, and his talent is definitely underappreciated. His lyrics are brilliant, and the music style spans wide; from simple piano melodies to real rock tunes. He seems like a really nice guy too. I guess he has gotten a little more exposure lately through being a part of Siriusly Smiling, Jingle Spells 2 and now the EP of the Month Club, but the more, the better! Peeved is awesome.
Someone else that I’m not sure is all that well known, is The Curse Breakers. She has a beautiful voice, and her songs has a really professional sound. Definitely worth a listen.
-
I agree completely with the one’s listed above, but there’s one I’d like to add.
Roger Davies:
Rich who, along with being an amazing person and friend, is a talented musician with a great voice and has a knack for writing catchy lyrics and songs that stay stuck in your head for days. Definitely go give him a listen. 🙂
-
Potter Ink is amazing. Liz is a great musician, and I can’t wait to play a show with her again on the 7th.
One of my favorite underappreciated bands is Nagini. Mary Beth is the funniest 12 ft. snake I know.
Danny/Hogwarts A History is also an outstanding band. His music is so catchy.
Finally, I really enjoy listening to Starfish and Stick, a collab between several wizard rock bands(Tonks and the Aurors, Creevey Crisis, and Hogwarts A History). I would definitely recommend everyone to check their music out.
-
Mary and the Grandpres. One of the funniest groups out there with some wicked ukelele skills.
And Hawthorn and Holly. Killer harmonies, sweet instrumentals and a ton of enthusiasm… I la-la-like them, like them! 😛 I don’t think it’s possible to appreciate them enough.
-
Wow! I’ve never even heard of Neville’s Diary! Or most of the ones mentioned here. I must rectify that ASAP. Thanks so much 🙂
My answer’s Nagini. Fewer than 100 friends on MySpace- what?! She has a gorgeous voice and does an amazing job writing all sorts of songs, but her duets with Alastor are especially amazing. ‘Eyes’ gets me every time. So does ‘Illuminate the Night’ and ‘Our Son’. The lyrics are fantastic.
-
I LOVE Hawthorn and Holly!
Also, The Blibbering Humdingers. Seriously funny and creative stuff with a “pretty song” thrown in there too. You wrock. =P
In other words. NC wizard rock pretty much wins. <3
-
:O Thank you Julia for introducing me to Into The Pensive! I love their music. Everyone go and listen now!
-
Into The Pensieve = amazing! THANK YOU GUYS <3 Ohhh also the reason I have so few friends is because something happened to my myspace a few months back 🙁
Thank you for saying nice things Kate and Rich <3
love
marybeth -
@ Stine, The Curse Breakers has 1402 friends.
But what the hack, if you don’t know her go and listen. She’s in my top6 of Wrock bands, she’s just THAT amazing!Awooo :pInto the Pensieve, I don’t know them…yet. Will listen to them first thing tomorrow!
-
Hagrid and the Angry Skrewts, Knights of the Giant Chess Board, The Gillyweeds, Sectumsempra Effect . . . Other then the bands already mentioned these are the ones that come to mind. I’m not sure if they’re well know or not. I’m surprised that some of the bands listed aren’t well know. Into the Pensive, Neville’s Diary, and Peeved are three of my favorits :).
-
Yes, Into the Pensieve is great! And the Blibbering Humdingers are absolutely hilarious. I’d also recommend The Weasel King (absolutely amazing!) and The Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office as, I think, relatively underappreciated bands and Kingsley and the Shacklebolts, Nimbus 9Million, The Sneakoscopes, and I Was Lord Elbin Ausley as underappreciated bands. Also, Split Seven Way’s lesser known band Malfoy Manor is amazing. Go check out all her bands.
-
@Martha, vi Zoe has great bands!
I love Malfoy Manor!Fred Lives has under a thousand friends, don’t quite understand why! Go, enjoy!
-
I’ve got to go with the seriously, SERIOUSLY underheard The HMS Wolfstar. http://www.myspace.com/thehmswolfstar “Give Me The Moon” is an absolutely gorgeous and haunting song.
-
Peeved = Awesome
Same with the Curse Breakers. I have to admit I’ve heard of the majority of these bands but there are a few I still need to check out. Thanks for all the suggestions guys! =) -
@Cassia Lenoir: I know, but I’ve just hardly ever heard anyone talking about her… She really is great!
Oh, and while we’re at it, as people have metioned above, The Blibbering Humdingers are awesome as well. “I Lose Myself” is one of my favorite “metawizardrock” songs…
-
😀 Peeved is really great! In support of my other fellow british wrockers, Siriusly Hazza P are awesome! <3 And also Shrieking Shack Disco gang!!! Seriously check out those guys!
-
LUNA WANTS A LONGBOTTOM FOR SURE! They rock!
-
AWOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Thank you guys! <3
My favorite under-appreciated artist right now has to be Kingsley and the Shacklebolts. They have a rough, garage-band, grungey kind of sound that I love, and the vocals are raw and real. I’m kind of a little in love!
Werewolf hugs,
Jessie! -
Woah, I just checked out the HMS Wolfstar, and they only have, like, 12 friends. CHECK THEM OUT RIGHT NOW. Siriusly, their songs are so good it’s criminally unfair that they only have 12 friends. Thanks for mentioning them, Marauder!
-
Either unheard of or just pure under appreciated:
Hogwarts a History
50 Points from Slytherin
Kwikspell
Statutory Snape
Wrackspurt!
The HolyHead Harpies
The Prefect Project
