Earlier, we posted about LeakyCon’s wizard rock event, Wrocking and Wrolling. Today we have information about the other major summer conference, Azkatraz, and their wizard rock event – Wrock around the Rock.
Originally, the idea was to transform Alcatraz into Azkaban for the evening, but this ended up being too cost-prohibitive. The next best thing? An evening cruise around the bay with views of the city, the Golden Gate Bridge, and of course, Alcatraz. For four hours, the yacht will be filled with the musical stylings of Brian from Draco and the Malfoys, The Remus Lupins, The Whomping Willows, The House of Black, Ministry of Magic, and one yet-to-be-decided band. There will be food and an optional open bar for those of age.
If you are feeling overwhelmed by the awesomeness of the wizard rock performances, there will be a level devoted to non-wrock activities like discussions and games.
The boat will dock about a 25 minute walk from the hotel, but there is also public transportation nearby.
The cost for the cruise is $75 for the first 150 registrants, $90 through March 1st, and $100 thereafter. Adding the open bar is an additional $25. Ticket information can be found here. They need to sell 300 tickets by March 1st for the cruise to happen. If for some reason this doesn’t work out, full refunds will be issued to everyone and an alternate wizard rock show will be planned.
At the moment, you must be registered for Azkatraz to buy a ticket for Wrock around the Rock, but you can buy a ticket with even just a day pass.
If you are going to Azkatraz, but this doesn’t seem like your thing, there will be other acoustic wizard rock shows throughout the weekend. The common room will be open at the hotel during the cruise.
