The names of wizard rock albums are some of my favorites. Spells From a Broken Wand. Toilet Humor. You get the idea. Now we have another winning title; Jinxed in the Head. The album, by North Carolinians Hawthorn & Holly, got it’s name from their creative lyrics. “It came from a line in ‘Pansy, Please!’,” band member Christie explains. “I’d rather be jinxed in the head, than be in Pansy’s shoes…”
Like many new bands, they really enjoy what they do. When asked about their motivation behind the album, Christie explains that they wanted, “…to write something that makes us and other people happy….”
The band, two members of which had a muggle project called Venus Grrrl Trap, has mixed musical experience, though this doesn’t impede their sound. Members Christie and Leah have classical chorale training, while Eddie and Tracy had little to no experience creating mainstream music.
Their music on their MySpace page packs a definite pop punk punch and Jinxed in the Head should be expected to as well. The track list is as follows.
1. Intro
2. Pansy, Please!
3. Why Dumbledore Why
4. La La Luna
5. Love Will Get Us There
6. Fizzing Whizbees Baby
7. Intermission by a Gryffindor
8. The Art of Parseltongue
9. A Thing for Malfoy
10. Polyjuice Potion
11. Squib
You can purchase it on MySpace as well as at shows. The band is working toward putting it on iTunes.
