As with controversies previous, we’ve been keeping track of responses made by bands in regard to MTV’s list of Top Wizard Rock Bands of 2007. The article has caused a great amount of debate in a short amount of time although it appears as if the popular consensus is for us to move on to other things. As it has become a personal subject for many I also feel obligated to add, personally, that I do so because I feel obligated to inform you of the statements that have been made as a journalistic entity following a story and not as a tabloid wishing to rouse further debate.
Devin, of The Owl Post, writes, “There are people who don’t think we deserve to be listed in the Top 10 Wrock Bands, according to MTV.” Click here for more.
The Whomping Willows‘ Matt shares a letter he wrote to the list’s author here and clarifies that the author is, “..a great reporter and a great journalist, and that’s precisely why her Top Ten List disappoints me.” The remainder of this statement can be found here.
Georgia from RiddleTM states, “…Making a list to me goes against the spirit of this supportive, un-competitive genre, and I can’t help thinking that people seeing the list would believe Wizard Rock to be just as competitive as the Muggle music industry…” More of her response is located here.
Lauren of The Moaning Myrtles provides her opinions on the subject through a video located in this blog.
And The Department of Rock‘s Rifyal has written a blog entitled “Malleus Maleficarum; Decrees By The Department of Rock” a humorous bill of rights for wrockers including such statements as, “All wrockers are born awesome and equal, and have certain natural, essential, and unalienable rights; among which may be reckoned the right of enjoying and defending their wrock and liberties; that of acquiring, possessing, and protecting property; in fine, that of seeking and obtaining their safety and happiness.”
A number of bands have also shared their opinions via the comments thread attached to our previous post on the subject.
